After contract gigs with Sun Microsystems and Netscape, in 1997 I took a position with Network General. Network General had acquired the assets of McAfee virus scan and in 1998 launched McAfee.com. I was one of a handful of people that created the McAfee.com website.

I worked on product registration and download, partner integration, ad banner management, Telecheck payment process, and email opt in/out functionality, among other things.

Here is an interesting story from those early days--when releasing a new version of Virus Scan for consumers we were gathered together to come up with a name for the new product. I came up with the name Personal Firewall. And that is now the name of that product line. My first foray into marketing.
